A Lasting Contribution to the Heath Robinson Museum

LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL

The West House and Heath Robinson Museum Trust receives no central or local government funding and is dependent upon income from visitors, fund-raising, donations and gifts.  The trust is a charitable organisation and apart from our museum manager and learning officer, all other roles are undertaken by volunteers.

A gift in your Will can play a vital part in ensuring the future of the museum and helping to maintain this valuable arts, cultural and educational centre.

The West House and Heath Robinson Museum Trust (HRMT) exists to

  • Manage the first museum in the world devoted to the works of William Heath Robinson, one of the UK’s best-loved artists and illustrators.
  • Promote access to those works to inspire, educate and entertain people locally, nationally and across the world.
  • Present exhibitions, courses and other events and activities which add to the cultural life of Pinner and Harrow and support the above aims.

Ensuring family bequests before gifts to charitable causes

You don’t have to choose between looking after your loved ones and making a charitable gift.  You can use your Will to do both, either by leaving a gift specifically after friends and family bequests, or by specifying a fixed amount as a gift before leaving the remainder to loved ones. Leaving a gift to charity in your Will can also reduce the amount your estate pays in Inheritance Tax.

Every gift, no matter how big or small, has the power to make a real and lasting difference.

HOW YOUR GIFT WILL SUPPORT THE MUSEUM

  • Maintaining and enhancing the stylish and informative William Heath Robinson Gallery, with a timeline of his life and works together with interactive exhibits
  • Extending the Special Exhibitions programme – In addition to the permanent exhibition chronicling the life and works of Heath Robinson, the museum has a rolling programme of quarterly themed Special Exhibitions. These focus on cultural, artistic and educational subjects as well as exploring aspects of public life.
  • Supporting the delivery of arts, educational and cultural events – including the Museum’s comprehensive learning programme of activities and workshops for schools, colleges, children and families.

HOW TO LEAVE A GIFT TO THE TRUST IN YOUR WILL

You can download a Codicil form from this page or talk to your solicitor or legal adviser.  They will need to know the following details about the Trust name and number:

Registered charity No. 1086567

Types of gift

  • There are three main types of gift you can leave to the Trust in your Will.  Your legal adviser can help you make the decision that is right for you.
  • A Residuary Gift sets aside a proportion of your remaining estate after debts, funeral expenses and specific bequests (e.g. to family) have been paid.
  • A Pecuniary Gift is for a specific sum of money (although inflation will mean the value of this will reduce over time.)
  • A Specific Gift is a gift of a named item usually a particular asset (shares, jewellery or property).

Most people choose to leave an unrestricted or general gift. It’s the most helpful option because it enables the Trust to use your gift to support the areas or activities where the need is greatest.
