Jake is 16 and lives locally. Since September 2019 he has been studying graphic design at West Herts College. Jake has recently helped collaborate with other students from the College on some work for the Fairies exhibition which started at the Museum in November 2019 and ends February 2020.
Jake says “I did volunteering at the Heath Robinson Museum for the Duke of Edinburgh Award about 18 months ago. Then, in College, one of our recent projects included making a table-top design with a “fairy” theme for the Museum. We had to make something based on the idea of a fairy land, in keeping with the theme of the exhibition. There were about 17 of us doing it. I have been quite a lot to the Museum and I enjoy contributing to it”.
Volunteering can be an excellent way of getting work experience and collaboration between young people and the museum provides stimulation on both sides and can be mutually beneficial. It’s great to see youngsters like Jake taking part.
