Role: Registrar and Front of House

I have volunteered for the Museum as Registrar and Front of House since it opened in 2016. Having started work as librarian at Harrow School of Art now University of Westminster, one of my reasons for volunteering is to remain involved in the arts.  Like many of our visitors I only knew “the gadget king” but now really love the work of “our quiet man”.

A registrar is concerned with the movement of artworks in and out of museums.  As a new Museum there were several practices to establish without which we couldn’t have achieved Arts Council accreditation.  I am especially busy with paperwork in the weeks leading up to returning loans from an exhibition and getting them in for the next one. As a member of the Collection and Exhibitions Committee I help take down and put up our exhibitions. It’s hard work but there is a great sense of achievement, and I like being part of the team.

You can normally see me on Thursday afternoons in my Front of House role where I enjoy welcoming our visitors and putting them at ease. I’ve made new friends amongst my fellow volunteers and love working in the beautiful surroundings of the Museum and Park.
