Illustration is all around us from the books we read as children, the cartoons we laugh at in newspapers or online, decorating the food and drink that we buy and helping us to learn about and appreciate the world we live in.
Each session will start with an introduction on a particular category giving historical and contextual information with examples from a variety of artists including Heath Robinson. This will be followed by the opportunity to try out different illustration techniques appropriate to each.
Over six weeks the categories explored will be:
- Classic Book Illustration
- Children’s Book Illustration
- Wildlife Illustration
- Botanical Illustration
- Humorous Illustration
- Commercial Illustration
No previous experience needed but an interest in drawing will be useful – there will be a lot of drawing!
Art materials will be provided: paper, pencils, colour pencils, fine ink pens and watercolour. Please do bring additional materials that you would like to use too.
