Introduction

Zara, an independent art consultant, researcher, lecturer and exhibition curator, has been travelling in Asia since 1973. She will introduce us to Buddhism and the transmission of Buddhist Art as well as the symbolism of Tibetan Art and the tiny Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan.

PROGRAMME

09.45 Registration

10.00 – 11.00

We start with an introduction to the life of the historical Buddha. We then trace the development of Buddhist art across Asia before it reaches the Himalayan areas of Tibet and Bhutan.

11.00 – 11.30 Coffee and Tea

11.30 – 12.30

We look at the rich symbolism of Tibetan art and explain how to interpret the common images, themes and motifs.

12.30 – 1.30 Lunch by Daisy’s and tea and coffee

1.30 – 2.30

We explore the vibrant culture of the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan where Buddhism permeates every aspect of daily life.
